The politician and the cyberman

Sir Vince Cable recently paid a visit to the museum to learn more about what we are doing to help inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers.

“This is the cradle of the Industrial Revolution, it’s fantastic history.”

Those were the words of Sir Vince Cable, newly-elected leader of the Liberal Democrat Party, on a recent visit to the museum.

Vince described the museum as “very impressive” and was particularly interested in our extensive textiles collection, as he researched the Indian textiles industry for his PhD.

He was given a behind-the-scenes tour of our collections by head curator Georgina Young—there was great excitement among both his team and the accompanying members of the press when they learned that they were going to meet a real-life Dalek and a Cyberman. And Lib Dem MP John Leech had a warning for the two opposing parties:

Vince also met with Nichola Wallworth, regional STEM Ambassador Hub manager, about our STEM ambassador scheme and how we were working to encourage more girls and women into science.
